This unique course offers an introduction to Sufism with an overview of Islamic mysticism and the importance of Saint shrines in Sufism. Students will visit Sufi landmarks in Jerusalem to understand the place of Jerusalem in the Sufi tradition.
The first introductory class will take place at the Schechter campus. Subsequently, students will embark on 3 educational field trips to the New and Old City (the Muslim Quarter) of Jerusalem, where they will visit the tombs of Sufi Sheikhs, and Sufi Khanqas (convents) and zawiyas (religious schools).
Students should arrive at the meeting point for field trips on their own. The field trips involve a moderate amount of walking.
