In this unique course, led by an expert on Sufism, students will visit several Muslim and Sufi landmarks in Jerusalem of significant architectural, cultural and historical interest. We will also visit the newly reopened tomb of Abu l-Awn al-Jaljuli (d. 1504) in Ramle. 

May 21Old City of Jerusalem: General Introduction to Types of Islamic Institutions in Jerusalem, Zawiya Qiramiya Lady Tunshuq’s Palace, Madrasahs on King Faisal Street.

May 28: Old City of Jerusalem: Madrasa Jawhariyya, Ribat al-Mansuri, Zawiya Khalwatiya.

June 4: Old City of Jerusalem: Zawiya of the Whirling Dervishes, Zawiya of the Afghans, Zawiya of the Indian Sufis.

June 11: Center of Jerusalem: Sufi Meditation (with practical training) at a Sufi tomb in the Mamilla Cemetery; meeting with Qadi (Judge) Dr. Iyad Zahalka, Qadi of the High Shari’a Court of Jerusalem.

June 18: (Ramle)Jami’ al-‘Umari (Baybars Mosque), the newly reopened tomb of Abu l-Awn al-Jaljuli, the Great Mosque, and the ancient gold Moslem coin exhibit in the Ramle Museum**

Please note: It is possible to register for 4 or for just 3 fieldtrips

10% discount price for 2 series of classes, 

15% discount price for 3 series of classes or more

*dollar price dependent upon exchange rate on date of payment

** Participants will arrange their own travel, either by public transport or car pool.

Cancellation Policy:

Prior to start of course – 100% refund or 100% credit for another course.

Following one class – 90% refund or 100% credit for another course (except for fieldtrip courses where only a 75% refund will be given after one meeting).

No cancellation after 2 classes (in special cases, e.g. illness, a credit will be given for another course).
