This course will introduce students to a variety of fascinating Jewish figures during the Italian Renaissance, analyze their contribution, and examine the complex relationships between Jews and Christians in Italy of that period.
We will encounter Jewish thinkers and Kabbalists in 15th century Florence; a Jewish playwriter for the royal court theater of Mantua; a Jewish dance master and choreographer in some of the major humanist courts of 15th century Italy, and many others.
