This mini-course will explore, compare and contrast the Jewish philosophies of Mordecai Kaplan and Abraham Joshua Heschel, two of the most innovative and influential twentieth-century Jewish thinkers. We will explore the following topics: prayer and spirituality, the possibility of halakhic change, the purpose of the State of Israel and the relationship between halakhah and ethics.
