Rabbi Akiva was one of the outstanding scholars of rabbinic Judaism and one of the great teachers of our tradition. We are grateful to him for his scholarship and his leadership. However, like many other great teachers and leaders his personal family life was not so tranquil. We will study the sources of the life of Rabbi Akiva as told to us in Rabbinic sources with special concentration on his family life including his relationship with his wife(wives) and sons. Using this material, we will attempt to draw a picture of family life during the era in which he lived.
