On February 4th, 2024 – almost three months before the Pesach holiday, the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary sponsored a seminar, together with the Yotzrim Zikaron [Creating Memory] NGO, for the purpose of re-imagining, or how to adjust our approach to the Seder in the wake of the October 7th war. The day-long event was well attended by community leaders, clergy, community activists and rabbinical students.
This supplement is the result, it is a shorter version of its Hebrew version. This supplement seeks to help us deal with our current situation. It describes our story at this difficult time, arranged according to the order of the Haggadah to facilitate the integration of the readings into the Seder. You can browse through the readings before Pesach and choose readings for various points during the Seder. You can derive personal inspiration, stimulate thought for the holiday and arrive a little strengthened for the Seder night.
The Seder Supplement is the fruit of the labor of many good people. The Hebrew version was edited by Ayelet Escojido. Rabbi David Golinkin selected various readings, translated and edited them in English. The supplement is produced in cooperation with The Masorti Movement and The Rabbinical Assembly of Israel with support from Yotzrim Zikaron [Creating Memory].
Please feel free to print the booklet for use by your Seder participants. Or you can send it out in advance and invite the participants to choose parts that they would like to incorporate into the Seder.
The Schechter organization hopes and prays that we all find strength around the Seder table for gentle singing, stirring conversation and quiet reflection, and to continue telling our story.
