From Misgav north of Haifa and south to Beer Sheva 73 graduatesof Schechter’s MA program proudly walked the stage at ceremonies on May 28th. These newly minted alumni come from a wide range of backgrounds and careers: teachers and principals, a hospital chaplain, a startup founder, municipal employees, a pharmacist, army officers, a dance teacher and JCC staffers.
Shlomit Miron, a creative writing instructor and the graduation student speakers shared this about her Schechter experience:
“At Schechter I learned Judaism in all its variations and in ways I had never learned before. As a secular woman I think of my friends who are turned off by the word Judaism. I imagined them beside me in my classes. I imagined them understanding something they previously hadn’t. They open their hearts to a rich heritage full of contradictions and complexity – that is rich, wise, creative and new. This is how we must learn about Judaism.”
Schechter’s MA program in Jewish Studies offers a wide array of study tracks that allow students to specialize in a range of areas including Jewish communal service, Israel Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Jewish Art and many more.
