The program at Neve Schechter will be based on the highly successful program model in Jerusalem, with content adapted to serve the intellectually sophisticated, largely secular Tel Aviv audience. Dynamic lecturers will provide a magnet for the program. Designed for men and women of all religious backgrounds and levels of observance, Torah Lishma will offer a fascinating peek into traditional learning in hevruta, an introduction to the Jewish bookshelf, and study of Torah from various perspectives: midrashic, Hasidic, and critical.
In recent years, a number of frameworks for traditional Jewish learning and a growing number of programs for secular study have opened in Tel Aviv. Yet a serious non-degree program with a pluralistic approach to Judaism – an outlook combining the love for text and a focus on personal meaning, with intellectual rigor and respect for the lifestyles of participants, be they secular or religious, does not yet exist in the White City.
Who should join Torah Lishma?
Active professionals interested in studying in a Beit Midrash atmosphere that combines traditional learning with an open and critical approach to the sources, one full day per week. No prior acquaintance with Jewish sources is required for participation.
