The question of Israeli leadership haunts us today.
Biblical stories concerning leadership can provide insight into the present.
What kind of King did the Torah actually want? What kind of kings did Israelite nation produce — great leaders, villains… or both?
In this course, we will examine Israelite kingship, both in law and in narrative. From Judges, through Samuel and Kings — accompanied by Hannah, Avigayil, Michal and Bat Sheva — we will read selected stories that reflect the conflicting desires and crossed loyalties of Israel’s kings and their courts.
