The Midrash Project

The Midrash Project of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies was founded in 2007 in order to publish a series of critical editions of midrashim, as well as other books devoted to the modern study of midrash. Prof. David Golinkin serves as Editor in Chief and Prof. Shamma Friedman as Academic Advisor. Each critical edition presents the midrash based on the best manuscript, and includes selected variant readings, reference to parallel sources in rabbinic literature, and a critical commentary. In addition, the Midrash Project website contains a complete synopsis of the manuscripts and Genizah fragments of each of the midrashim. Finally, the Midrash Project publishes important works related to the modern, critical study of midrash.
